Rare deep-water fish caught in
Kasimedu fish market. This fish is nearly 3 feet.
It is
quite calm to see the boats in the harbor, but thinking in deep the risk taken
by the fisherman going to the sea creates anxiety in our minds. Almost all
boats come back after 4 or 5 days. Sometimes it takes more than that or less;
they go with precautions so as to survive all difficulties.
Ice
rates escalate, number of factories going up: a worker pulls a block of ice for
the box. Ice manufacturing companies are probably one amount the few that
eagerly wait for summer.
A block of ice sold for 150 to
200 rupees. During
Off-season it fetches 450
rupees to 700 rupees in peak season.
The fresh fishes are put in ice
to ensure its freshness.
The fishes are cleaned and cut
for customers. There are many stalls for cleaning fish in Kasimedu fish market.
These workers open their stalls in the early morning itself.
The stalls in kasimedu fish
market are opened so early in the morning. Even selling dried fish shops are
opened so early. Varieties of dried fishes are available in this market at
cheaper rates and best quality.
Striving for livelihood: even though he is physically impaired, he
never gives up. He does his best t heap his body and soul together. He carries
fish in large quantity in small basket in basket from the boat to the shore.
When other complete 2 or 3 tips, He could complete just one trip.
Men
and women engage in making baskets in the kasimedu fish market. They sit in
front of their shops on the floor and make it in the best way they can. They
have baskets ranging from 50 rupees to 300 rupees. People to carry fishes in
kasimedu fish
Market use these type baskets.
The retail shoppers purchase
the fishes in large quantities from Kasimedu fish market and carry it to different
local areas for sale, the seen of carrying fishes in baskets in different
vehicles is from early morning usual in this area.
Only
miracle can save them: Labours are feeling difficult to do their work because
the boats were late to reach the harbor. Which was due to climate change. They will
find difficult to meet their daily wages.
The small stall selling vadas,
bhajjis and other fries at very low prices. Mainly meant for poor and low
wageworkers.
Waste from Kasimedu market is
dumped in this area. It greatly adds to land pollution. When this area was dug
to construct roads, the wastes dumped here came to the top surface creating an
unhealthy, unclean living condition for the people.
Is India winning the war of
poverty?: The pathetic life conditions of poor people residing Kasimedu areas
in small hurts show the image uncleanly. They store drinking water in unclean
tanks and pots. Which makes diseases.
They are just touched by
something entire: The oldest traditional way of preserving fish was to let the
wind and sun dry it. Dried fish has a storage life of several years. A man is
drying the fishes, it contain almost 300kg of fresh fish, which would reduce to
somewhat 200kg after being dried.
This is their story, the story
of struggle: The fish caught are brought back to the shore in the boat. The
fish is being transferred to people, which are then carried in vehicles to
various areas. The boat was came back after seven days of work.
The man makes sure the safety
of ropes with which the boats are tied to the harbor. They check for any fault
and repair it if any appears.
The ropes in Kasimedu colony
are a great wonder. Ropes are tied from one house to the other. The people stay
in small rooms with their families. Since they don’t have space for putting out
the clothes for drying, they depend on these ropes they are tied from one
houses wall to the other.it make us understand the unity in them.
India strives to become
‘drought proof’: widespread drought has given a tough time to Chennai. India is
on its way to be declared a drought country.
